Home Country: England
Founded in 1973 under the brand name Celef, Chairman and Chief Designer Stewart Tyler soon found himself at a crossroads — increase production capacity and potentially sacrifice quality, or change tactics and focus on more expensive designs, produced in albeit smaller quantities. The choice was clear and, soon after, Tyler began marketing his speakers under the brand name ProAc (short for Professional Acoustics). Since inception, they have pushed the boundaries of technology without short changing quality, always reflecting on past achievements. It is this long view that continues to inform ProAc’s direction into the future.
ProAc strives to stay out of the murky world of ‘unobtanium’ materials and unreasonably costly manufacturing techniques, both of which can be of dubious value. Carefully constructed cabinets house bespoke drivers mated to crossovers of the highest quality. ProAc’s founder and chief designer, was once quoted as saying “We do not make cheap speakers, and certainly do not make cheap sounds.” It’s this straightforward line of thought that has driven design over the last 35+ years. ProAc puts the time, effort and money where it counts, producing an honest product that achieves extraordinary performance at reasonable prices.
